Frequently Asked Questions
Is Goldenrod free?
Right now, yes. The Wildfire Readiness Series, including the kits for your go bag, kids, and pets, along with the emergency kit builder and evacuation plan builder, are all free to use.
What if I rent instead of own?
Goldenrod works whether you rent or own, and whether you live in a house, mobile home, apartment, or condo. When you set up your profile, you’ll answer a few questions about your household, including whether you or someone else handles exterior maintenance. Your action steps are tailored from there, and you can update your profile any time your situation changes.
What if I don’t have kids or pets?
No problem. Your onboarding profile tailors your series and action steps to your actual household, so you won’t see steps that don’t apply to you. If that changes down the road, just update your profile and your plan updates with it.
How is my data used?

Why “Goldenrod”?
Goldenrod is a wildflower that grows in all fifty states, one of the most widespread native plants in the country. Its name comes from the Latin solidago, meaning “to make whole” or “to strengthen,” the same root as solid and solidarity. It blooms bright gold in late summer and fall, often the last real color before winter. The name felt right for a tool meant to help households feel a little more whole and a little more ready, wherever they are.
Is this only for Colorado?
Not at all. Goldenrod works for any US household, in any state. We’re rolling out some state-specific details over time, starting with the states most affected by wildfire, but that doesn’t change your ability to complete the readiness series, build your kit, or put together an evacuation plan.
